Garlic Christmas in Vermont

Garlic is not always associated with Christmas, but here in Vermont we do not relegate the regal tuber to Halloween and protection from evil spirits. In fact garlic’s role in our daily lives in winter is even more prevalent that in other seasons. Because of garlic’s legendary healing properties, its place in the pantry is much closer to hand.

Allicin, the active ingredient in garlic has a powerful effect on the immune system. Take garlic before you get a cold, it is an excellent preventative. Take garlic during your cold to feel better (this is mostly psychological). Garlic has been shown to:

  • Reduce cholesterol
  • Reduce triglycerides
  • Decrease the formation of blood clochop garlic with the Garlic Zoomts
  • Provide protection against cancer

Garlic’s gifts to health maintenance are undisputed. But few realize what a great Christmas gift garlic can be. Garlic Keepers and Garlic Bakers are natural gifts for garlic lovers. The Garlic Zoom Garlic Chopper (pictured right) is a gadget-loving cook’s dream.

For the more artistic temperament, garlic treasures abound on Etsy, a site dedicated to all things handmade. Just search for Garlic Art. Here are a two of our favorites:
